Delicious Ciabatta Steak Sandwich with Chimichurri

Hello friends! When I say this is the one of the best sandwiches on earth, I mean it! This recipe may seem hard but is one of the easiest to make.

While some may be nervous to cook steak (even I am sometimes!) It becomes super simples when using the correct methods which we will go over today.

Ingredients (serves 2)

1. I recommend a ciabatta bun for a crispy sandwich

2. Spicy Havarti cheese (or regular if you prefer it)

3. Chimichurri – this recipe is already posted on my page.

4. Garlic aoli

5. Hot sauce of choice

6. 2 bacon wrapped medallion steaks

7. 3 tbs avocado oil

8. 1 tbs of butter

9. Steak seasoning of your preference. For this I typically keep it simple and use salt, pepper and garlic powder.

Prepare Chimichurri prior to cooking steaks

Steaks

Prior to cooking your steaks, you want to make sure you Chimichurri is prepared so that it has time to sit and develop flavour.

Although steaks seem scary, they are easy to cook with a simple process where we are going to sear the steak prior to cooking it in the oven.

While the reverse sear is common, this is an easier method to tackle for a perfect juicy steak.

1. For this recipe i reccomend bacon wrapped medallions which can be bought from the store. if not available no worries, get filet mignons and a pack of bacon. Use 1 strip to wrap the steak horizontally and use a toothpick through the side to secure while cooking. Once that is done, you can proceed with seasoning your steaks to your liking or just use the reccomendation above. For this recipe I reccomend simple is better to let the other flavours shine.

2. Now you can start preheating your oven at 425F. After get a pan on the stove with 3 tablespoons of avocado oil and set to medium high. Avocado oil would be preffered over olive as it has a higher heat limit. Therefore, your oil wont burn and the steaks wont burn either.

3. Once your pan is hot, you can lay the steaks down away from you to prevent oil splatter. For medium rare flip steaks every 2-3 minutes twice.

4. On the last flip of your steaks, grab out a cooking sheet or use pan if oven safe to transfer once done. If using a pan, throw it in the oven now to preheat it.

5. Grab your butter and put 1 tbs into your pan. Once melted, start basting the steaks with butter until they are ready to go into the oven.

6. Transfer imediately onto your baking sheet with the juices from the pan poured on top of each steak evenly. Now transfer to the oven for a reccomended 10-12 minutes. If you want your steak well done, then do 15-17 minutes.

Bun

Now that your steaks are in the oven, its time to start on your bun.

  1. Cut your bun horizontally and place 1-2 slices of havarti cheese on the bottom slice depending on the size.
  2. Open your oven, or oven toaster and take your Bun (both slices) and place it on a baking sheet and insert into oven until crispy and or cheese is melted for 3-4 minutes.
  3. Once done, you can take them out and on the top slice spread an even layer of garlic aioli. Once done with aioli you can add the hot sauce of your choice and the amount you please.

Now your ready for assembly!

Assembly!

Now you steaks should be finished and make sure you leave time to rest them for 5-10 minutes so they keep their juiciness.

  1. Now that your steaks are rested you can start assembling. Get out a cutting board and sharp knife then slice 1 steak per sandwich. For the slices of the steak i reccomend them to be very thin at just under 1/4 inch per slice.
  2. Once sliced, start laying them on the bottom bun to make sure they cover it from end to end. Now add 2-3tbs of your chimichurri (or to your liking) and make sure you drain as much oil as you can first.
  3. Now put the top of the bun on and cut in half.

Enjoy, you just made a steak sandwich!

Tips and Tricks

  1. I reccomend a non salted hot sauce to keep the flavours neutral.
  2. Use a strainer for the chimichurri to drain the oil as you dont want it to be overpowering.
  3. If unsure if steak is fully cooked dont worry! Use a thermometer or cut into one on the edge to check.
